In winter and summer, the Caviahue - Copahue hot springs, an area surrounded by lagoons and muds with therapeutic and curative properties, with sulphurous waters rich in minerals, can be an alternative for health, well-being and recreation.
Both Caviahue and Copahue are places of rest and recreation with outdoor activities and pure mountain range. The immensity of the mountain and the eternal snows of the volcano, configure the ideal setting where to find peace and recover energy.
Caviahue combines the Copahue volcano with araucaria forests, water mirrors, steppes, basalt terraces and high-altitude mallines.
This place, of international fame, offers in winter the peculiarity of combining hydrotherapy, physical training (in the high-performance sports center) and winter sports. These in the Caviahue ski center, on the slope of the Copahue volcano, which offers the possibility of being able to enjoy 4 to 5 months of skiing.
In summer the range of activities is very wide allowing the tourist to choose the option that the tourist likes the most and suits their needs and possibilities. Among them we can mention:
Trekking: walks through circuits in various terrains of mallines, volcanic and stony sand, with multicolored rocks and araucaria forests. There is also the ascent to the Copahue volcano to enjoy its great lagoon, and you can go through the ancient forests, unique in the world, for example the way to the Escondida waterfall.
Mountain bike / cycle tourism: descents of more than 1000 meters of unevenness through a forest of ancient araucarias, streams and waterfalls.
Horseback riding: horseback riding through Mapuche lands discovering their customs and culture. In addition, waterfalls and seductive landscapes offered by nature are visited, with the option of spending the night in the mountains.
Ascents: this activity can be done on foot or on horseback, always with a guide who knows the place. We visit the Copahue volcano, Cerro Negro and Pirámide.
Canoeing: it can be done in the different lagoons that the park offers, including Lake Caviahue.
Agrotourism: you visit the Riscos Bayos, where there are rocks formed from the deposit of materials expelled from the volcano; and there is a walk through a farm operated with rabbit breeding and a great variety of strawberry production.
Other activities are water sports, sport fishing, hunting, bird watching, ethno-tourism, ecotourism and photographic safaris.
Both for lovers of good landscapes and for photographers there are places to observe flora and fauna, such as the Escondida waterfall where you can see seagulls, teros, loica, Patagonian thrush, etc. In other places in the Park, condors, black-necked swan, southern flamingos, bandurrias, cabure, cachaña, etc. can be seen.
Caviahue has a Center for high performance sports associated with thermal rehabilitation (CEARART) that specializes in evaluation, diagnosis, research and sports training. It offers a complete program of medical benefits (sports, physical, thermal); sports, physical activities and physiokinetic benefits; a rehabilitation and training gym for sedentary adults or young people looking for relaxation.
